Jack Greene lives and works on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. His work spans more than six decades.
Educated at the Boston Museum School in the early 60s. Upon graduating he was awarded a post-graduate traveling scholarship to work in Europe and particularly, in Greece. Returning to the U.S. he taught at the Museum School and then traveled on to Mexico and the West Coast. He was based in San Francisco for more than two decades, where his work was represented by the SFMOMA Museum Gallery (now the SFMOMA Artists’ Gallery) and later by the Art in Embassies Program in South America.
After 25 years in the Bay Area, he and his wife and partner, Marianne, relocated to New Mexico for several years, and then returned to the East Coast in the late 90s.
The scope of Jack’s work traverses a range of large-scale painted media from paintings on linen, to painted sculptural relief works, to acrylics, watercolors, and drawings on paper.
When not working, Jack spends a great deal of time with his cat, Annapurna, as well as the birds who inhabit his backyard.

“The music of abstraction is the door to freedom of imagination. Many of the images I use are taken from ordinary found objects, which I reinvent in the sculpted piece. I am always looking for ways to reconstruct the imagery of found objects so as to make visible the archetypes that are there, buried and hidden, discovered and reinvented. “
